NBA Trade Season Kicks off with 3 way Deal

The Los Angeles Lakers highlight this mildly interesting deal by finally finding a sucker/taker for guard Sasha Vujacic. Vujacic if you remember managed to somehow further annoy the modest populace that know who he is by snagging tennis star Maria Sharapova, angering thousands of hopeless men across the country. The Lakers sent Sasha to the New Jersey Nets who in turn moved fan favorite but bane of coach Avery Johnson's existence Terrence Williams to the Houston Rockets while also sending veteran and former number 1 pick Joe Smith to LA. Now with a surplus of guards, Houston will send Jermaine Taylor to Sacramento for a 2nd round pick. Seriously those two teams might as well just switch names.
The struggling Nets, who last year managed to fall below rock bottom, will receive a 2011 1st round pick from the Lakers and a 2012 lottery protected 1st rounder from Houston. The Nets are currently in possession of 5 1st round picks over the next two years.
They had better make great use of them. New Jersey failed to lure any marquee free agents this past summer and their backup plan Carmelo Anthony has his sights set on their future rivals the New York Knicks. This despite the imminent move to a brand new arena in Brooklyn and the combined pitching power of an enigmatic Russian billionaire and the biggest rap star on Earth.
The Lakers meanwhile save roughly 9 million dollars and immediately are 40% less sleazy. Plus Smith will be a great addition considering veteran Theo Ratliff's lack of durability.
The real winners here I think are Houston. Terrence Williams may have ruffled feathers in New Jersey, getting demoted to the D-league and put on the inactive list for missing practice, but he is nonetheless a very talented wing player. He's young, can play 3 positions, obscenely athletic, and has a habit of filling up the stat sheet. With Yao Ming slated to return from an ankle injury soon, things could be looking up for the mediocre Rockets, who still possess enough assets for a big roster shakeup.
The deal cannot be finalized until December 15th due to the rules regarding dealing players that have recently signed contracts. (Joe Smith)
