Music has lost another legend. The illustrious r&b singing was found dead yesterday by her daughter. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, however she reportedly suffered a grand mal seziure in LA last month. Teena blessed the world with gems like "Portuguese Love," "Dear Lover," "Out on A Limb" and "Square Biz," though is perhaps most known for her classic duets with the late Rick James "I'm a Sucker for your Love" and "Fire and Desire." Born Mary Christine Brockert, she first got her big break in 1976 when she signed to Motown and became James' protégé. She's been active up until this year in fact.
Marie's music has been sampled by a whole generation of artists including The Fugees ("Fu-Gee-La"), The Firm ("Firm Biz") and Jadakiss ("By My Side") featuring Ne-Yo." In 2004 Marie signed a record deal with Cash Money and released La Dona (2004) and Sapphire (2007), the latter produced top 40 single "Oh Wee." The legendary singer's last album was Congo Square (2009). You can find out about that and more on one of her last interviews, located here.
She truly will be missed. R.I.P.
