Im Number 1 and so is my wife

Advertising is an interesting thing. What it means is that you can openly write things that are clearly not true and it doesn’t matter, because it’s “advertising”. It is interesting to note that dating websites put things on their front pages about their “success” and they are interesting. In Victoria, the Adult Sex based dating site www.AdultFriendFinder.com has something like one woman for every eight men. That seems a little biased, don’t you think? I don’t really like my odds there.
In terms of the Project, (which quite frankly has been thrown into jeopardy due to a certain person by the name of Gwen) I find it particularly interesting that each of the three biggest dating websites claims to be Australia’s No.1. LavaLife claims that they are the “No.1 dating site in Australia”, but they don’t follow that claim up with any form of statistic, real or made up. What do they base it on? I personally have had way more responses on both RSVP and Match. In fact, these are the figures to date -
Kisses received from
RSVP - 32
Match - 19
LavaLife - 4
As you can see, contact received from LavaLife was really pretty pathetic by comparison with either of the others, and the profiles I have posted on all of them are pretty much identical.
Match.com also have a claim on their front page that they are the "#1 Personals Site in Australia"* (*Neilson Ratings April 2006). However, according to RSVP, RSVP is "Australia’s No.1 Singles Site" as measured by the widely used Hitwise facility (web traffic monitoring for period Apr-Jun 2006). So who is really Number 1?
I don’t watch much TV, but as I was passing my flatmates room the other day, I peeked in and for the first time saw an ad for an internet singles sites. I had never heard of it before, but it was called www.redhotpie.com.au . I don’t personally think it is a very enticing name for people looking for a serious relationship. The name has a Porn connotation if you ask me. Anyway, it got me thinking about other, lesser-known sites and I have turned up a couple of others that I hadn’t heard of before. One of them is entirely free, it’s called www.plentyoffish.com.au and I think that this site should be included in the study, to see if a free site gets any of the success the pay sites get - what if we are spending all this money for nothing? I also found www.theloveclub.com.au which seems like a sex match kind of thing, so not really good for the project, but I thought I would mention it because it came up in the searches I did. There are plenty of sites out there, and I’m sure each of them is (pardon the pun) filling a gap in the market, which seems to have a never ending pool of single people using the internet to find a partner.
While I know which sites worked best for me, that still doesn’t go anywhere near answering my question about which dating site is actually the site most people use when they are serious about finding a partner. What I should claim is that www.singlebloke.com.au is Australia’s Number 1 Bloke’s Dating Blog. Its bullshit, but why should I be any different?

My hubby is str8 and I am bi and we have had no problem finding partners on online4love.com. We've had fun sex with lots of single men, single women and full swap couples that we met on O4L. And yes, I'm real, and no, I don't work for O4L or think they're perfect (they can be pricey and they goober up email sometimes,) but I think they're the best thing going by far for meeting other people who just want to have sex without strings!
For those complaining about the cost—ok, I agree, but I think you get what you pay for. I pretty much don't write people unless I can see what they look like and all, not because I'm shallow or a snob but because I want to know THEY'RE for real too and don't trust blank profiles...can you blame me? Also, it can be risky to contact people to swing with! Are they my boss? My brother? Twice my age? You get my drift. I’d like to know who I’m initiating a conversation with! The extra cost put into a good profile helps narrow down those you want to meet. How long do you pause on a profile that does not show a picture? (Faces can always be “smudged” until you know each other better to avoid embarrassing compromises.) And, although we are admittedly "just after recreational sex", part of having fun is that we have to LIKE our bedpartners too, so we look for things like a sense of humor and easygoing fun nature and a “click”. (And more expensive memberships include more matching criteria and stuff, too to help the odds of getting that “click” without too much searching.) So I guess I'm saying that if you don't cough up the extra cash for a full membership, don't expect overwhelming responses. There are lots of people who post their pictures and info, so when looking for people it's easy to breeze by the ones that don't. We may miss out on meeting some great people because of it...but we meet lots of great people too.
I agree there’s a high ratio of men to women, but I don’t know why that surprises anyone. Seems expected to me—although many women love sex, there do seem to be a lot more guys that are ok with swinging or casual sex than girls, for whatever reasons, and that’s not specific to O4L.
I definitely vote that it is worth the time and the money! We've had many a fun night of frolic thanks to connections we made on O4L.

I did "check it out", had a look and was extremely UNDERwhelmed by the very few numbers of women on the site in the Melbourne area. Dumbest thing about it was that you HAVE TO sign up with a recommendation of a friend you think needs someone o hook up with. FAIL.
